About Us
The Crisis Center of Comal County is a beacon of safety, hope, and healing for individuals and families facing domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life-altering crises. For more than 35 years, we have stood alongside survivors, offering compassionate support and the resources they need to reclaim their futures.
Founded in 1986, our organization has grown into a regional leader in trauma-informed care. Today, we serve Comal County and the surrounding communities with a comprehensive network of services—including emergency shelter, 24/7 crisis hotline support, counseling, legal advocacy, education, and prevention programs. Every service is offered free of charge, because safety should never depend on someone’s ability to pay.
At the heart of our mission is a simple belief: every person deserves to feel safe, valued, and empowered. We walk with survivors through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, providing not only immediate assistance but also long-term support to help them rebuild with dignity and confidence.
The Crisis Center is powered by a dedicated team of advocates, counselors, volunteers, community partners, and generous donors. Together, we work to break the cycle of violence, strengthen families, and build a safer, healthier Hill Country for all.
Whether you need help, want to support our mission, or are looking to get involved, the Crisis Center of Comal County is here for you—every step of the way.

Our Story - A Timeline
In 1986, local citizens began a grassroots effort to address the needs of those experiencing domestic violence. Our volunteer-led organization provided information and referrals to other service providers in the area. With the help of grant funding, we grew to include several paid staff and an emergency shelter. We added a sexual assault crisis services program to serve Comal County.
In 1994, we built a six-bedroom full-service emergency shelter. As the number of clients increased, we began to provide services to men, and our name changed to Crisis Center of Comal County. In 2000, the shelter was expanded to nine bedrooms with office space to provide additional services.
In April 2022, the Crisis Center of Comal County lost its emergency shelter and residential facility due to a fire. In August 2022, a temporary shelter location was secured in New Braunfels to continue to providing services. Since then, we have purchased land and have begun building a new facility with an anticipated opening date of late 2025.

“I was in a very abusive and toxic relationship for the past year. I couldn’t live with my parents anymore. My family loves and supports me, but I couldn’t live at home. We all agreed that the best place for me to be was in a shelter. Here, I have a safe place to sleep and meals to eat. They helped me secure a job. Staying at the Crisis Center allows me to save money so I can transition to being on my own. I am doing really well.”
